Focus on organic, speciality and artisan food production

I offer a range of services to small and medium sized food enterprises, focussing on organic, speciality and artisan food production. I enjoy working on varied projects regardless of scale. I am happy to find innovative and cost-effective ways to deliver what is needed to develop any food business – on time and on budget.

I have a particular interest in working on projects which contribute to the development of the organic sector in Ireland. I have over ten years’ experience working in media production, and ten years in the speciality food sector.

Business Development

Working with farms and small food companies I can help to streamline operations; determine market opportunities; identify new and innovative routes to market; develop sales and marketing strategies, and assist brand development for organic and artisan food enterprises. Some of these services may qualify for support through your local Enterprise Board Mentoring programme. Feasibility Studies considered on any topic relating to food, with particular interest in organic production.

Market Research

I can design and carry out a host of market research programmes to suit any requirement and any budget. A number of research studies completed to date with surveys and reports on topics ranging from Farmers’ Markets to eco-tourism, and use of organic ingredients in food service. Particularly interested in assisting with research which contributes to the growth of the organic sector in Ireland.

Project Management

My experience developing new products and brands from concept through to final application means I can project manage a start-up business or existing businesses’ new product lines or entry to new markets.

Smaller food businesses and farms often lack the experience or resources to develop their own websites and publicity materials. I can ‘take the headache’ out of this by working with local designers to establish websites, including e-commerce for direct sales. I co-ordinate publicity and print materials such as training brochures and promotional leaflets for a variety of clients, managing the process from copywriting through to design and print.

New Product Development

With experience developing a range of organic and artisan food products for local and national distribution, I can work with regional food technology centres or independent food producers to develop and test market new products, also assisting with packaging materials and design requirements.

Seminars, Workshops

I enjoy designing and delivering information seminars and training workshops on organic and speciality food production and marketing for producers and consumers. As Manager of Atlantic Organics, I was part of the organising team behind the All-Ireland Organic Conference in 2006. I have made presentations to a range of organisations from FSAI to farming co-operatives.

Journalism and PR

Having worked in the media industry for ten years I have a wealth of experience in TV, radio and print. I regularly write articles for national and trade press, and edit books and other publications. Recent published work includes The Organic & Green Guide to Ireland (2005 - 2006); National Green Pages (Food & Drink Editor), Organic Matters magazine.

I am happy to consider any writing commissions, from copywriting through to press releases. I can secure publicity for projects and companies and have an extensive local, national and trade PR database.

For Fun

I volunteer at a local Community Food garden, love helping out at Farmers’ Markets and Slow Food events, grow vegetables, fruit and herbs on a small scale, and spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing food …

I am available to work on projects anywhere in Ireland, but am based in the North West. I regularly travel to Belfast and Dublin.
